Experience beyond the building
Feelspace WORLD is about opening a window to people, places and experiences beyond the aged care home.
Mobility, health, distance and cost can make it difficult for older people to attend performances, travel, visit galleries or take part in cultural events.
WORLD explores another possibility: bring some of those experiences into the room.
Culture, education and entertainment
A musician, guide, artist, speaker, historian or cultural presenter can be delivered life-size for residents to watch and engage with.
That could mean a live music performance, an expert talk, a cultural presentation, a travel experience or an interactive workshop.
The goal is variety. Residents should not have to leave curiosity behind simply because travel becomes harder.
Why life-size matters here
A large television can show beautiful content, but a life-size person changes the relationship between the audience and the presenter.
A musician appears to stand in the room. A guide can speak directly to residents. An artist can demonstrate at a scale that is easier to follow.
The technology is most useful when it makes the experience feel more immediate.
Curiosity still matters
Older people continue to have interests, passions and a desire to discover new things.
Aged care programming can sometimes become repetitive simply because organising outside experiences is difficult.
WORLD is designed to widen the pool of what a home can offer by connecting residents with people and experiences beyond the local area.
A complement to outings, not a replacement
Feelspace WORLD is not intended to replace excursions, visitors, family outings or real travel.
Those experiences remain valuable whenever they are possible.
The purpose is to create an additional option for days when leaving the facility is not practical, or when the person or experience being accessed is too far away to visit in person.
From passive viewing to participation
The strongest WORLD sessions are not necessarily those with the most spectacular visuals.
They are the ones that invite residents into the experience.
Questions, conversation, music, storytelling, demonstrations and live interaction can all help turn a presentation into something residents actively participate in rather than simply watch.
